BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (BELLE ET LA BETE, LA) (1946)

Vintage original 9 ½ x 11 ½” (24 x 29 cm.) double weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, France. Jean Marais, Josette Day, Mila Parely, Nane Germon, Michel Auclair, Raoul Marco, Marcel Andre, dir: Jean Cocteau; DisCina. Story of the daughter of a merchant who comes into the castle of a monster, half-human, half-beast as a sacrifice after her father stumbles upon him and he demands his death or that he give up one of his daughters. She discovers that the beast is not as inhuman as he wants others to think. A beautifully photographed (Henri Alekan) and atmospheric film classic. This lovely portrait of Josette Day as Belle is a testament to the stunning costumes (Antonio Castillo, Marcel Escoffier, Christian Berard) and sets (Lucien Carre, Rene Mouaert, Chrisian Berard). Very rare to find original French stills from this French classic.
