Vintage original 8 x 10 (20 x 25 cm.) still photo, U. S. Claudette Colbert, Warren William, Henry Wilcoxon, Joseph Schildkraut, dir: Cecil B. DeMille; Paramount. Here is an iconic image from the highly art deco stylized De Mille version of the saga about the Queen of the Nile. The film was far more 1930’s Hollywood deco than ancient Egypt, but what an epic! The sexually charged visuals passed the scrutiny of the censor board, just as the strict motion picture code was being drafted. Art direction was by Roland Anderson and Hans Dreier. Colbert’s bias cut Egytptian inspired costumes were made by Travis Banton. The film told the basic story of Cleopatra, Julius Caesar and Marc Antony. Stunning image for costuming and set.
