CHARLES LAUGHTON (C. 1932)

Vintage original 8 x 10” (20 x 25 cm.) silver gelatin key book linen print double weight still photo, U. S. Classically trained in acting at the Royal Academy of the Dramatic Arts, he was born in 1899, worked on stage and entered films in 1928. He became an actor of great depth and range in character roles seemingly beyond his young years, including his portrayal of Dr. Moreau in ISLAND OF LOST SOULS. This portrait was done at that time. He went on to great roles in RUGGLES OF RED GAP, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, REMBRANDT and HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. This superb Paramount portrait is one of the most haunting of Laughton.
